Dobrogea Sites - Beştepe

It's the first discovery in Dobrogea being part of the Thracian-Dacian fortification system. The ancient settlement was placed on the right bank of the Sf. Gheorghe channel, about 3km away from the today's village of Beştepe. It had an area of about 25ha, placed on a hill that gave an effective defense system by combining the the natural fortifications with the man-made ones.

The few discoveries, consisting in ceramic fragments, place the fortress in the 4th century BC.

The lack of artifacts found in this place leads to the hypothesis that this kind of fortifications had a predominant strategic role, as retreat and defense for the nearby settlements placed in the open.
